Here's the link: http://www.ci.westminster.co.us/202.htm There's a protected area for eagle nesting. Wind: West is best. The lake is situated right where there tends to be a good westerly flow of wind, even when it's light east elsewhere. The wind from the eastern half of the dial is generally light and extremely variable even when it's relatively stronger east elsewhere. This is due to the high density residential areas upwind of the eastern side of the lake. I watched the wind 5 days a week when I worked at Level 3 for 2 years via personal weather stations. I frequently went over there during lunch. At the time, their rules and costs for windsurfing were even more outrageous than Boulder Rez's entry fees ($30/board/day). These personal weather stations are close to the lake and
probably reads the most accurate in west winds: This one seems to read more accurately in east winds: http://www.wunderground.com/weatherstation/WXDailyHistory.asp?ID=MAP744 |

$15 to windsurf per day and that only covers 2 boards. Of course, how they are going to tell whether you sail on 1, 2, or N boards is a mystery to me. Zebra mussel mitigation in effect - takes about 5 minutes. |

I was up at Standley lake just today (windsurfing week for the Community Sailing kids!)....so here's the drill. It is $15 to get in to the park to windsurf, you have to drive over to the ranger shed (the friendly folks at the gate are happy to point the way and call a ranger over) and have your gear hosed off with hot water. The rangers I spoke to were super nice, helpful guys - just trying to do their job and keep the zebra mussels out of the lake! Still one of my favorite sailing spots if the breeze is out of the northwest. Karen Marriott, 6/15/09 |
