Anini Beach, Kaua'i
(Last Revised: 5/16/09)

Location:

On the north shore between Kilauea and Princeville. Heading west on highway 56, after passing Kilauea you will cross a long concrete bridge; take the next right onto Kalihiwai Road. Take the left fork as you go down the hill. It is a mile or two out that road and you can't miss it.

Launch Site:

Grassy rigging area. Plenty of parking. Lots of reef.

Lake Size:

Relatively small reef-surrounded bay, with a fairly narrow channel through the reef.

Best Wind Direction:

NE trade winds

General:

The most popular sailing site on this island. Celeste Harvel of Windsurf Kauai does lessons and on-site rentals here. This is the only windsurfing lesson/rental available on the island. Call in advance: 808-828-6838.

When the wind isn't good enough for windsurfing, the snorkeling is about as good as any other site on the island.

Trivia: was originally known as Wanini Beach, but the W came off the sign and was never replaced.

Admission:

Free

Camping:

Camping is allowed at Haena State Park and Beach, further west (past Hanalei). Permit required.
